Hi all working, on a 109 2 1/4 diesel series. Ok so its burning alot of oil and smokes for fun. No.4 injector is leaking like a good un from everywhere possible. At the min the guy that owns it is putting 2ltr of oil in every week. Lastly there seems to be alittle oil in the coolant. Have got a new head gasket set. My question is are we looking at new rings and all of the rest of the stuff reqiured when doing this job, or would it work out cheaper, and quicker to replace the engine with another.

for the price of a half arsed rebuild you can fit a good used 200tdi. You can rebuild it but It ain't worth any time let alone money. If it were me and he did not want a TDi then 2.5na all the way but 2.25 ain't worth even 10 seconds of thought about rebuilding it. IMO
 
Has to be diesel. he runs it on veggy oil so must be a diesel lump. Doesn't use it for off roading yet, just for carrying his tools around
 
put a transit 2.5 banana engine in theyll run on veggie oil all day and are not on ecu just make sure you use the transit bell houseing and clutch guts

2.25 rebored bout 10 year back, never rebuilt. new pistons still in boxes. cant remember if i had the crank ground or not.
finally got round to throwing it out, but its still here on trailer ready to go.

wouldnt advise it, but if you want it......
