My series 3 109 petrol 2.286 has 2 different fuel lines, a narrow rigid one from the fuel pump which is attached to an inline fuel filter via a short length of rubber hose which then fits to the Webef carb, I would like to make it a single piece of line If possible, is there a way of doing this as the fuel inlet on the carb is largr than the outlet of the fuel pump, I was also thinking of fitting a shut off valve to isolate the fuel filter for cleaning.

This is an issue I've been pondering for a while. My fuel filter is installed about 3 inches from the carb so I can replace it without needing a shut off tap, a dribble of petrol does escape but not enough for concern. I keep looking out for a suitable adapter to allow the normal size rubber fuel line to fit to the lift pump but I haven't come across anything yet. I just wonder if Landrover fitted a metal fuel pipe for a good reason that I haven't realised.

As it sounds good. Rigid most of the way so its less likely to damage and flexible near the engine to absorb vibration. Not obvious how to improve on this.

Vibration from the engine does have an effect, the short rubber section to the carb starts to crack. I've replaced this bit twice in 6 years.
