Hi, My brother is having his S3 Diesel rebuilt as his late retirement present, many years ago we fitted a chassis and recon engine all from Paddock, the painted chassis rotted away over the years and the engine was never much good from the day we fitted it but in those days we just had to go with it and keep working. He is now at the stage of having to get the engine ready, he wants to stay original and wonders who can supply recon unit with a good record as it will be a few years before its finished.
I did search but a lot found were not so recent.
Murray.

Agreed, if you go back 20 years there was a big "recon" engine business based on takeing an engine and skimming a few thou off everythng, putting new rings and shells in and selling it with a years warrenty. They lasted a year and half when the valve gear fell apart because all the case hardening had been ground off. Those days are gone (I hope) and a rebuilt engine now should be mostly new parts with a ground crank and rebore and last much better. I would be looking for someone such as Turner or Glencoyne to rebuild your engine and return it but it won't be cheap.

That's what I eneded up doing, and it saved a lot of money. What drove my decision was not being able to find anyone near by who wanted to do it.

Thanks guys, Turners sounds good, just looked at the website, he is capable of doing it but still working long days 6 days a week and it would never get finished at least this way he will end up with a nice S3, new chassis and bulk head, axles, springs all done, overdrive purchased so its getting there. Thanks Murray.
