Hi all. Most of the brake componets on my 1957 Series 1 88" with 10" drums are shot and I am trying to get new parts here in the States to rebuild them. Most people over here don't carry Series 1 stuff but they do handle Series II and later. Will someone with a Series II Parts Book please confirm that the following parts numbers are the same in your book? Any thoughts or experiences you've had with this would be very welcome too.

Brake anchor plate Left hand 515406
" Right hand 515405

Shoes LH 505675
" RH 505676

Wheel Cylinders
LH Front 243297
RH Front 243296
LH Rear 243303
RH Rear 243302

Drum 218149

Pull off spring- bottom 218983
Pull off spring lead shoe-top 503981

I know the Series II master cylinder and the reservoir are different than a Series 1 but of all the things I have, mine might actually be worth saving.

My fingers are crossed! Thanks, Bil

Come on guys. At least comment. Is this something that everyone already knows except me or what? Thanks, Bil

Well, as far as originality, it looks to have the original brake system configuration and the parts all seem to be in the right places. I'm not quite sure what I can show you in pictures, but I will try. The arrangement of the parts are exactly the same as the Series 1 Workshop Manual diagram below. The wheel cylinders on there now are Girling. I also attached a pic of the right rear wheel with the gear still in place but you really can't see much and the right front brake anchor plate with the wheel cylinder, brake shoes the reaminder of the brake assemly removed.
The purpose of me listing the parts numbers is that if they all match what someone has in their Series II or IIA parts book, then I think I am good to go in getting those matching parts and making them work on my existing brake anchor plates and with my existing drums. Those on this side of the pond know that Series II and IIA is much more available over here than Series 1. Most suppliers over here will not even TALK to you about a Series 1. It will really get me going if someone can confirm the numbers and/or pass your experiences with this on to me. BTW, I think I said this but, these are the 10" brakes front and rear. Best regards, Bil

Well, I guess I am off base with this question. Sorry to the 106 people who took the time to open the post (maybe even some who needed the same question answered I did). Best regards, Bilbo

Not had any experence of this, but looking at my II/IIa parts book, the parts numbers in the 10", SWB front and rear brake section are the same as the ones you have listed. The only difference is the wheel cylinders which seem to be swapped around. In my book it lists
RH Front 243297
LH Front 243296
RH Rear 243303
LH Rear 243302

Dont know if this is a left hand / right hand drive thing, typo or genuine difference.

Hope this helps

Thanks jcuk. I was really hoping that the parts numbers matched. Yea!!! You are correct about the numbers being different for Left and Right though on the wheel cylinders. Not a typo. I checked my book again. Mine happens to be RH drive. I am going to hope it is a LH/RH drive deal or maybe something to do with the placement of the Master cylinder and reservoir maybe being different in the two models or maybe a SII vs SIIA deal. Anyway, this really helps....on to fixing brakes now. Thanks again. My best, Bilbo

No problem Bilbo. One more thing I would do is make sure the new cylinders are decent banded ones like the existing Girling ones you've got. I've read of lots of problems with cheap Britpart patern brakes with leaking seals so I would aviod these if you have a choice.
Good Luck
Jason

Thank you Jason. I have heard that Britpart was not good. I have two choices over here-one is the Girling and the other is the Delphi. Like everything, money is the issue. I am still sourcing and pricing parts. I do really aprreciate your help. Like I said, one step at a time. Best regards, Bilbo
