What bits should I take off the truck so no thieving low life can steal it while I'm away this weekend? According to a neighbour her dogs scared off a couple of yoofs the other night who were paying an unhealthy (for my car) amount of interest in it.

I was thinking 'steering wheel' would be an easy one, but also easy to get around as there's a couple of other landies in the area they could nick a steering wheel off.

Is the wire to the injection pump a good bet? Should I cut and crimp it or will this just end up causing me aggro when I put it back together?

Earth straps and battery are pretty easy to remove, but then that makes them easy to replace too I guess...

Should I maybe do all the above, or just leave it and hope for the best?

Cheers for any advice,

Best keep the battery functioning for alarm/immobiliser purposes. Disconnect starter, remove a few essential components, distributor/coils, fuel pump fuse etc prop front up on axle stands and remove the front wheels. This will look like its not driveable.

Chain neighbours dog to bumper

why not go the whole hog and remove the engine and gearbox, that'll stop the bastards ;)

Christ Adz, where're you leaving it, Mosside? (someone'll give me stick for that!)

Steering wheel is an easy one & they'd have to be pretty tenacious to break into another Landy & take the wheel off of that one to steal yours.

Steering wheel & disconnect the battery (if you haven't an alarm that relies on it) would be my fave. If they're desperate enuff & have time to find a steering wheel & reconnect the battery before someone spots them then they'd probably take it if it was up on blox with no bluddy engine!

just take the steering wheel off then.
them inbreds from chatham will never figure it out.

put chains and padlocks round everything, pedals and steering wheel... chain the handbreak up and on... remove the battery... I dunno make it a fecking nightmare for anyone to start... and even get moving...

Think I'll ignore the jibs about my advice... Psychological deterrants work just as well as the physical ones

Costs nothing but 15min of your time to remove front wheels and lock them away out of sight, your average joe car thief wont even bother thinking about it.

If its stolen to order.... if they want it they'll get it. Just come with transporter and lift the lot, your shed and all. Theiving gypsies might even lift your oil tank too just after you've topped up for the winter.

Bottom line is...... dont make it easy for them!

Pyrotechnics are an ideal way of detering them. Door opens, igntions comes on without disabling the circuit, and 3Kg of pyrotechnics go up... My favorite would be a Stadium Maroon... the name suggests its use... set one of these off and your theif will be fecked as the noise phucks their semi-circular canal and they can't stand... the noise will have half the neighbourhood out and someone will call the police... now let the theif explain that one... "yes officer... the fecker must have been trying to blow my car up!"

Language discomania... oh I see you toned it down a bit

Are you thinking of the crowd control measures where the anti-crowd vehicles emit the 4hz frequency noise causing you to run to the nearest toilet facilities

A few years back me & ma mates rigged up a anti theft system on me motorsickel. Split a spark plug lead & fed it via a switch unner the tank, through the seat & wove it in & out of the seat cover in the nad area.

Anyone starting said bike without throwing the switch would get a rough sounding motor so they rev it all the more & get the full force o' the coil through their nads.

Trouble was, I couldn't rely on mesel' to always remember to set the switch the right way & was always worried it would get knocked when I was going at speed.

Be a good one to set up just to teach n'er do wells a lesson........I know, i know it's illegal...........but, hey, who cares?

if you are going to spend all this time worrying about what ifs, over your landy being stolen while you are away fer xmas, then what are you going to be like while you are away. i wouldnt bother going if i were you, cos you will spend the whole time worrying about yer landy, what a happy xmas that will be ;)

you can park it outside my house if you like.
you could leave the keys in and the injun running - it would still be there when you got back.
after all, I only live down the road!

Theiving gypsies
I would like to take this oportunity to point out that not all thieves are Gypsies and it also follows that not all Gypsies are thieves.
