scuff before etch priming?

I have a new battery box from YRM. Its a machined finish and i'm away to etch prime it using Arc-rites Pro XL. Question is, do i need to scuff the surface before etch priming given its new metal? If so, what grade of paper should i be using?

Brick cleaner makes a wonderful job before painting galv, did my chassis 3 years ago and no paint come off yet
