Scored cylinders on a M62 V8 4.4L in 2002 L322 Range Rover

What should I do?

Hi there,

I hope this is in the correct part of the forum

I went to replace the headgaskets on my engine and found the following score marks on the cylinders. There was carbon build up on the piston head and the exhaust chambers so I can only assume that oil is getting into the cylinder.

I have this on three of my cylinders - pics attached as a file (first time posting here!)

I checked compression before the rebuild and it was consistent across all of the cylinders

Should I replace the block or just roll with the rebuild? What are the downsides?

Doesn't look too great to me, if you've got all the bits there ready to go I'd put it together but mentally prepare myself that its going to need attention at some point.
 
Cannot see any hone marks
Is that water staining on some of the bore sidewalls?
Is the bore gouged in pic 2889, bottom of piston edge between valve cutouts?
Has ii heat seized in the past?

no hone marks - I’ve done some reading and in not sure that the bores are honed because of the silicone stuff??

it is gouged on 2889

probably copious amounts of WD than water as I’ve been cleaning the carbon off the pistons and coating in WD for protection

it has never heat seized

Ah see silicone bores are new to me, never had nowt to do with them.
It was the gouge and the water stains that made me think its either been heat seized or had water standing in the cylinder for some time.

So I assume its non reborable or honeable? in which case slap it together and see how she goes.

yeah none honeable or borable for a reasonable price
