Hello. I'm new to LZ forum, but have seen some good advice in posts since buying my L322 in January this year.

When I went to collect the car, the dealer told me that the sat nav, tv and radio had stopped working. He said the fault was in the amp and that his auto electrician had confirmed is. Perhaps stupidly, I took the car as was (it was cheap) and took it to my local LR approved garage (non-dealer).

Unfortunately, they said. Problem was far worse. The parking sensors didn't engage automatically, and the indicators did not flash or tick inside, but did flash outside. The problem was that due to the boot seal failing, water had seeped into the boot and had affected part of the wiring harness.

The garage managed to get the sensors and flashers working again (phew!) and I replaced the amp, tv tuner and sat nav box (upgraded to MKIV). I also replaced the head unit (working second hand version). I now have working cd player and radio, but still no sat nav. The middle of the three lights at the top right hand corner of the head unit constantly flashes, so I assuming this is registering the fault.

The garage says the problem can't be fixed because of inherent damage caused to the wiring by the water. A £9,000 rewire is out of the question.

It's already cost me over £4,000 just to get the radio working (the dealer is repaying a substantial chunk of this) and I've tried removing fuse 49 for ten minutes etc but to no avail. I'm really disappointed at having no tv or sat nav, and I've spent a fortune on useless components as they still don't work.

Anyone got any solutions or bright ideas? Thanks in advance.

David

Thanks! Any ideas? I've been reading about the need to reprogramme the system, but have to assume the garage tried this. They had the car for four weeks!

Good grief, don't ask me, I'm just a Disco Peasant! :D do lots of searching and there are lots of people on here who know their stuff. Good luck!

I'd be looking at legal action. Ok, its not unroadworthy, but if the wiring is fubar then it could catch fire at some point.

Any chance of taking it back and starting over with a different one? You say the dealer is paying toward costs...?

The car is now roadworthy, and as a lawyer I know my rights, but the situation was complicated by my acceptance of the fact the nav didn't work, although I relied on what I was told was the problem. As I say, I've come to a settlement with th dealer that suis me.

I'm assuming the garage did a hard reset, I think my only option is to see if I can hard wire a new unit in, with sat nav etc independent of the modules in the boot.

The usual problem is corrosion in the connectors, water does not affect plastic coated wires to any great degree. The pins in the connectors sometimes corrode off completely and the wires also corrode off where they enter the connectors. A garage would not do it, but it is possible to bypass the connectors and hardwire the unit if you are good with a soldering iron. I have actually done this for a mate, saved him the couple of grand the dealer quoted to fix the problem.:)

Additional question:-

I am thinking about trying a replacement head unit to see if that helps. Everyone I can find online states the range dates 2003-2005 or 2003-2007. Maybe a stupid question, but these all look the same as my 2002 head unit, but it's odd the date ranges don't start at 2002. I'm wondering if there was a change after 2002 that means a 2003 or 2004 head unit won't work in my 2002 Vogue?

Thanks.
