Why not just replace the fuel pump?
Because I have been quoted £1200 for the pump and fitting and then there’s the risk that the metal filings will have travelled through to the injectors (I’ve already replaced 2 at £700) it would mean flushing the system too. Not prepared to waste any more money.

£1200!!

A decent reconditioned fuel pump costs £180 exchange and no more than 3 hours to fit, in fact I can change the HP pump in under 2 hours.

There won't be anything wrong with the injectors, as the pump can't send rubbish to them.

They're talking out of their asses.:(

Oh wow!! That is a different tale!! I might look into sorting it then! Cheer for the info mate!

I have to agree with John, whom have you been taking your Freelander to? when you require work on it, even a good know second hand HPFP would cost no more than £65.00 and a couple of hours work, which is not that hard to do, in fact I am almost sure I know someone around west Yorkshire ( Liversedge ) whom might take on the job for you, its not me but a contact I know through the R40 forums.

Cheers Arctic 2, it’s a freelance bloke over near Wakefield. Perhaps he’s got the wrong end of the stick on this one!? What mine is doing is it is smoking and juddering on startup and spitting fuel out into the plastic cover under the sump. He advised me not to try anymore injectors but that the High pressure fuel pump was breaking down and that it needs to run at a certain PSI. While it’s leaking it can’t do this, so it makes the engine run lumpy.

If it's dropping fuel, then the pump is leaking. This needs just a rebuild, or a reconditioned unit, I'd fit the latter. It doesn't need injectors as those will be fine, it's just a pump head seal that's failed.

Normally the pump continues to supply sufficient fuel pressure, even though it's leaking. This can be proven with a simple pressure check using the live data from the EDC.

I suggest you find someone who actually knows how a common rail diesel engine works. Arctic2 is well versed with the TD4 engine, and if he's recommended someone, than that's a top recommendation.

Where is the fuel leaking from? Front driver's side, or rear driver's side?

I will look at purchasing this one then!
That was just an example of the type of pump you need.

I'd actually buy this one https://www.pfjones.co.uk/landrover...bosch-common-rail-diesel-pump-0445010011.html, but remember they are exchange. ;)
Is there a slightly cheaper one than the Bosch that will be almost as good
No as the pump is made by Bosch, it's a Bosch CP1 high pressure fuel pump. It's specifically designed for common rail fuel injection systems, like that fitted to the TD4.
The pump is silly expensive new, but a decent reconditioned pump is £180, as shown above.

I have also sent you a message in conversation

John is bang on unless you know of someone whom as a good used one with the seals changed, I contacted Mick and he had just sold his last pump, don't forget you will need the special tool also unless you can borrow one, link below for the removal tool which must be used.
