whats the half round strip that runs about half way up a defender body from the front doors round to the back door called and how easy is it to replace.
Mines rusty in places did try about 6 months ago to sand the rust off treat it and repaint but its starting to show again think its better to replace if its possible

Unbolt roof and sides as one, lift off, drill out rivits and replace (in a nutshell).
It's not hard just long winded, a day will see it done.

OMG was not expecting to have to remove the roof and sides but if thats the way to do then so be it, thanks for the reply Flossie

You might be able to remove the bolts at the sides and leave the roof at the windscreen connected and chock the lot up a bit. Weather that will give you enough room to work I'm not sure. It would mean you could do the job on your own though.

Now that I know what the body capping are called I googled them and came across a you tube video on how to replace them, yup you can prop the tub up appears you dont need that much room. but to be honest I really dont think I'd like to try and do it. Gonna try and give them another sanding down treat and paint them then see how they look by the end of summer if they start rusting again then I think I'll have no choice but to just do it.

Get your own blasted and galvanised. It will be cheaper. New galvanised capping's are over £200.

Good advice but then I think that will mean the vehicle being off the road for a few days maybe a week so the cost of alternative transport plus the cost of blasting and galvanising might end up being as cheap to buy galvanised ones

Depends how rusty they are as well, thin rusty steel won't stand a blasting.
Min charge round here for galv was £75 a few yrs ago.

Well for between £220 to £240 from YRM I can get a set of Galvanised body caps so think those will be the ones I go for if mine end up being well rotted, think its just surface rust at the moment, not sure till I sand the paint off

There's a pair of galv genuine 110 ones on eBay for £120.

I'm in the process of cancelling my ebay account which takes 60 days apparently to close, due to the way they handled a complaint or didint as the case maybe so I wont be buying from ebay for quite along time
