Well here we go again...
I was a member here when I had a Disco2 and now (after a couple of years of a sensible car) I'm looking at a Disco 3.

MOT has an advisory of 'both rear interior sills rusty'. I've not viewed it yet (Monday) so that's all I have to go on. But if I bought it I'd want it sorted. This would be done by a garage, not me.
  1. Is it a common issue?
  2. Roughly what will it cost to fix (obviously a very vague estimate as neither you or I have any other info

Yes its getting common as the cars age, the problem is the plastic sill covers trap the dirt and moisture, leaves seem to be a real problem.
What I have noticed with mine is at the bottom of the sills where inner meets outer is where the rust is starting, like fords of old.

As for fixing it, sod that find another car, its not like they are rare.

Pics, this is NSR sill and the rusty bracket is what used to hold the side tubes/bars.

I think you might be right. I have another one lined up to view tomorrow.

Ive had mine for 4 years and theres quite a bit if surface rust on the chassis, nowt to worry about as its nice and thick, but I think the sills are going to be the D3s long term achilles heal.

Guy on the D3 forum has just galved his D3 chassis.

I can remember a guy on the S2 forum who works on late model land rovers had seen a couple of D3 with totally rotted out sills, Iirc he was up scotland so the weather may have a bearing.
