We keep being asked about rust so I’m going to make a few threads, this being the first.
I use hydrate 80 on non severe stuff or steel you can get fairly clean and them just want to barrier. Perfect if your brushing back a chassis or panel that hasn’t been gone too far.
the next thread I do will be deox gel, which is more for the in depth rust removal.

Here is a commercial bulkhead panel I picked up at the weekend.
- Clean/degrease part. I use no nonsense degreaser on my car parts then dry
- Wire wheel the scabs and flakey rust.
- Clean again
- Paint one uniform coat of hydrate 80 on the surface
- Allow to dry for 30 mins
- Paint another coat but this time paint in perpendicularly to your first
- Let dry overnight
- You can then rough up surface slightly and apply your paint system
