Hi all, i'm asking to help a friend, is it possible to retrofit a D1 300Tdi aircon system to a RRC from '86 which was without it? the main issue is if the heater matrix must be replaced or the evaporator can be addapted to it somehow?.... any tips will be gratefully received

I think it would be quite involved. I would think the whole heater box needs to come out and be swapped. Also, I think you need to look at the ECU for the fuel injection because the A/C load is supposed to cause the ECU to raise the idle speed slightly. Additionally, the A/C condenser fans need to be fitted and the temperature switch installed together with a timer relay. I assume the compressor will bolt straight on with the appropriate bracket but you will need to look consider belts and tensioners if the engine has not previously had A/C.

The evaporator and fans should be O.K. to do. HTH

Additionally, having owned an A/C equipped '93 RRC I can tell you that, compared to today's vehicles, I didn't find the system that effective & you may go to a lot of trouble only to be disappointed with the end result :(
