My 4.0 on carbs is rough as rats.ive tried most stuff and i have an eletronic ignition.ive cleaned connections etc but to no avail.My freind has suggested its the ballast wire.it runs ok for a bit and starts fine.it is down on power and bubbling.I have a small amount of ecu stuff on the gas system that i think may be the problem.I have autogas 2000 system.
Any help?
 
Just wondered if u were running rich - maybe the choke stuck on or something. Checkin the compression wont do any harm - might allow us to rule something else out but will be surprised if it aint ok.
 
If it runs bad on both it could be dual fueling. Does it have a 3 position switch were you switch it to the middle position, wait till it runs out of petrol and then switch it to Gas.

A quick test would be to pull the Positive wire off the Gas solenoid. It is usualy Blue but not always. If in doubt pull both wire off the gas solenoid. This will stop any gas supply

Run it up and switch to gas and see if the engine keeps running.
