This is really bugging me now after using a mates disco and feeling the difference in quality. Basically mine is alright over over stuff slowly like under 5mph, bumpy roads etc. Not too loud and feels nice enough. But standard country lanes doing say 25mph over potholes its quite a bang going into them, all the interior plastics seem to squeak or rattle when going over the potholes. Admititly his disco is on air and mines on springs, but my first disco was too and it didn't smash into the potholes the same way. Its the cabin noise that really bothers me. Although it drives pretty quiet at 70 on a nice road, its just the slightest pothole and its so loud. Although I also noticed his engine is so much quieter from inside... don't really know how that could be..
Any idea if this is just a simple(ish) case of it needing new springs and shocks, and will be reinstalling air on rear. Don't really want to do it all to find it still hits the holes hard and loud :(

Same size wheels and tyres?

Does yours have the sound insulation above the gearbox?

Cheers
Standard 18" alloys with 60s instead of 55's, same on my old one though.
Nope it doesn't have the insulation on the bell housing, does it really make much difference?
Also his being an auto, and mine a manual.

Which have ACE or not?

This CAN (not will) occasionally make it jerky on corrugations. Recalibrating can help

Yes it does... and its bad, mainly because the arm to bar bushing is so worn it wobbles the front droplink loose and will only stay on by the last few threads... yeah I really should fix that... you think that would cause the harshness of the ride?

I'm having the same issues with AIR, no ACE, on 245/70/16. My shocks are supposed to be newish (2 years old Ironman) according to previous owner. Front springs look sagged.

I'm thinking changing to new springs and shocks but can't make my mind on which brand/models (OME or TF). I really want to improve comfort on and off road.

I was either just going to go with standard OEM Oil shocks from bearmach or try to terrafirma shocks, but they are gas charged so not sure how that would affect ride quality.

gas is firmer sounds like you need to look at the lot all suspension/axel bushes ,drop links, watts linkage etc as well as springs and shocks

I also found tyres have a huge effect.

Avon used to make tyres for these (they have since dropped out of the market) and they were pretty soft and gave a decent ride.

The orignal tyres on mine gave a really crashy ride.

Would not help, but occasionally I found corrugations were triggering locked bars when then shouldn't

A friend has the +2" Terrafirma springs and their Pro Sport shocks on his 110 and the ride is much softer/smoother than my car. So I was tempted to fit the equivalent setup to my disco (and keep the air).
