right yer!
anyone know where i can get a rear hoop (proper 1 not bent scaffold tube ) and before anyone says it yes i've done a search and about all i can find is full truckcab cage£300, or 3" truck cab hoop and rear stays (£400+)

you could get a full cage for a 90 for about £500

i could if i had that sort of dosh lying about !
its only for me old 87 deepender for lashing about salisbury plain and some laning not going doing comp safari's or trialing. just want the rear hoop to cover the truck cab a mate has a pipe bender so can build the rest onto it later

If you're not doing comps etc then it doesn't need to be 'approved' tubing .. but I'd suggest getting proper cds and have your tube-bending mate make a hoop up for you.

We did it for a friends Series3 many years ago ... everything fitted as you want it to, not as 'they' want you to fit it .. ;) He needed it inside the soft-top rear canvas so it didn't look too obtrusive and fitted it so close to the front that it looked integral to the body. Had some pics but can't find them now or I'd scan them in and post 'em.

if you intend on having one I personally wouldn't use CDS one half decent roll and the cage is scrap! Actually scaffold tube isn't that bad as it is afterall red band and galvanised so it can be used and even approved if built to the blue book specs.
I wouldnt bother fitting or making one unless it meets regs. Red band ad blue band are seemed and needs to be built correctly to so as to not stretch the seem to get a cert. Cold drawn seemless or CDS has advantages it can be bent tighter on a machine but is a one hit cage as used by WRC to absorb crashed like a crumple zone. Red band is a fookin strong and will bounce off trees aLl day long.
I can demonstrate with a couple of youtube videos if you like give me a sec.

I suggest this one is CDS and not built to any specification other than a bling exterior It may have an integral hoop to spec and go to chassis but I doubt it.
Its all twisted and buckled

I suggest this one is blue band or red band as it does not crush down much at all after it lands on its roof with the weight of the car on it and lets be honest thats a big off:

Right. I was under the impression that cds was the tube of choice 'cos it was also resilient and could be re-bent after a roll!

Might have to look into this a bit more .. not done it for a few years but my project for next year is (hopefully) a road legal Trials type Landy .. with full roll-cage etc, but totally stripped out, so any info you have Jai, would be appreciated.

Well I have just got mu hands on an 80 inch trials motor that needs updating to latest regs and a general sort out. It was log booked in 1996 and is still good apart from updating the strength of the mounting points. I Planned on building one from a an 88 inch Rangie chassis that was supposidly built by somone at devon 4x4 donkeys years ago and never used. I got a good 3.5 efi but the cage was a bug bear due to me not bending up cages before myself and really wanting to get it logbooked for trials. I still have it in the garden in the way to be honest. I had a q plate for it aswell that is taxed but that was from a disco and the legalaties are more than dubious.

Heheheheh, sounds like me when I was 21 .. but that was motorbikes ... now I'm 50 I want four wheels and a modicum of comfort .. and totally legal!!! ... ;)

If anyone knows where I can get my hands on a short as steering column shorter than a disco (Must be or rover origin) one cos its almost binding
