Hi all,

when i got my '94 disco 300tdi a few weeks ago, it was given to me with the doors being locked/unlocked with the key in drivers door. It did have two single-button keyfobs but no batteries in them.

The central locking is working ok and the LED on the dash flashes rapidly for a few seconds and the settles down on arming, as described in the manual.

So, the question is, do i risk fitting batteries in the fobs and trying it by remote or not? What i dont want to do is activate some sort of immobiliser and bugger things up, or have the alarm going off all night:eek::eek:

I have read this here http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f8/coding-keyfobs-scratch-91739.html which explains any coding that might be needed so thats ok.

Chance it or not??

As you are setting the alarm/immo via the key and things are ok, the remote won't make any difference other than when setting with the key the the interior ultra-sonic movement detector is isolated and will not be when locking with the fob, so if that's faulty the alarm may activate usually a 2am :D

The best thing to do is to scan your immob. status first.......it it is programmed on "disarm only with key" mode ul'll immobilise it with the fob even if it's properly coded so u have to reprogramme it...........it's doable with Hawkeye(or other D1 compatible tester)

These are the programmable features via Hawkeye (or testbook)
GEMS Immobilisation

Spider Immobilisation
EDC Immobilisation
DDS Immobilisation
Catalyst Overheat Warning
Land Rover Defender
Discovery Interior Lights
Defender Interior Lights
Pulsed Horn
Hazards ON Alarm Triggered
Hazards ON Alarm Arm / Disarm
Passive Immobilisation
CDL Operative With Alarm Armed
Immobiliser Off With Ignition
Disarm Alarm / Immob. With Key
Disarm Alarm Only with Key - and that is the dangerous one for u
Unlock Vehicle - No Disarm
Mislock Sounder
LED Indication of Alarm Trigger

I'm not the best in Disco 1 , maybe some smarter chap than me will contradict me....maybe it wont be immodilised just the alarm will stay armed, logicly the alarm and the immob are going together......... i saw several times Disco 2 immobilised due to this kind of missusage.

This is the original menu from the Hawkeye user manual(same as testbook)....it's for 10AS security I dont know what that means......if yours is not GEMS will say not fitted but that doesnt mean it can't be programmed for "only disarm with key mode"...........I dunno just wanted to put u in guard

I did some investigation coz i dont like to misslead anybody or write bollox(albeit it seems i do sometimes:eek:....just want to help)......so apparently 10AS(alarm and security)Lucas is fitted on 95+ vehicles but it's a whole debate on this on many forums and i saw discussions about 96 300tdi with single button fob...then we have to know if the 10AS is a system which has more variants or this one is just with 2 button fobs...also i presume from what i've read that the alarm system could be the same with different types of immobiliser..............it's interesting this thread 1994 300TDi single fob alarm - also immobiliser? - LR4x4 - The Land Rover Forum so i'd say it's good to make sure what kind of alarm/immobiliser system is fitted before u mess with it.....even though everything related to alarm/immobiliser can be fixed with a tester if it's a matter of missusage not some defect.

I coud've told u more if it was a D2...sorry

Holy crap, that linked thread is a can of worms:rolleyes:

I think i'll leave it as it is.

Well, i was lucky - two new batteries and the remote fob now opens / closes the doors:):)

I haven't tried starting her yet so dont know if immobiliser is still ok, as the transfer box drain plug sheared off when i went to change the oil:mad::mad: but thats being dealt with in another thread.

Well it worked ok for a while!

Went to use the landy today, keyfob would not work, led not lighting on button press so i guess the button jammed down and drained the tiny batteries. Use the key i thought - wrong idea!

Alarm goes off, standing there like a lemon with alarm sounding and no way to stop it. 20secs later it shuts up, open the door and try to start her and see if that resets it - wrong idea, alarm goes off again on door open.

Shuts up again and no start as immobilised !

Shuts door and locks with key - bloody alarm goes off again.

Two new batteries and the fob sort of works on every couple of presses, i'm guessing its knackered. Spare fob button sounds better and clicks but the alarm is not programmed to it so it dont work.

But at least the alarm and immob works i guess! Locking on the key again now until i get round to attempt to program the spare fob which i understand is a fiddly two-person job!

Bloody alarms.
