A British parts seller cheating.
Guys this is my experience with Rimmer brothers of UK.
I purchased a water pump from them , the photo showed a pump with metal impeller with part no STC3342P1 , clealy marked as OEM.
see picture;
https://rimmerbros.com/CartPage.aspx

What I received after two weeks was not a OEM pump but a pump with a plastic impeller manufactured by Euro Spares.

Dear Sir,

The part you have received is an OEM part, the photo on our website is outdated and needs changing to show the current stock. All part numbers, illustrations and photographs used in this website are intended for reference and identification purposes only, and are not necessarily an exact representation of the goods supplied. Photograph's of parts should be considered indicative of what we supply rather than an exact representation as sources of supply and manufacture can change. Whilst we make every effort to ensure the accuracy of product descriptions, illustrations and photographs on this website, they are based upon information supplied by the manufacturer or distributor at the time. There may be occasions - due to circumstances beyond our control - when specifications are changed, or when goods become temporarily unavailable. At this moment in time we can only supply pumps with plastic impellers.

This is posted to warn others as sellers try their own definitions on OEM parts.

best regards

Trading standards is your only hope and probably the part numbers. Most web sites state picture are only representative and to check details. Not sure how prominent the Rimmer Bros notice is? Wammers is the king of part numbers.

I think the metal impeller one is made by Kolbenschmidt and has KS at the end of the part number, i.e. STC3342KS. Would have to check my receipt from when I bought it, if I still have it. Presumably STC3342G would be genuine? Not sure what P1 stands for?

Other option is payment method. Credit card protects you against web purchases, even if nothing wrong with the part.

I see they say bla,bla,bla.... (BS)
And then "At this moment in time we can only supply pumps with plastic impellers."
I dont buy from them, they are too expensive, but if I did, I wouldn't find this satisfactory, if they have an original part number, then thats what it should be,

you are at liberty to return items from on line selling.

I think the bearmach and allmakes are metal impellers I got a Bearmach on mine with a metal impeller

The part shown as STC3342P1 in their web site has a metal impeller , that's why I ordered it.
What my car has, KS branded with a metal impeller. But it's leaking coolant at present.
Returning this part is expensive & they have not agreed for that too.
I'll have to source a KS pump without fitting this. Otherwise I'll be changing the pump again in 6 months.

noticed some plastic impellers are grey coloured plastic rather than OE sh**ty brown/yellow when I was searching.
Stc3342es brown/p1 grey alternative maybe? As @Datatek said OE is plastic and will work fine. They crack as they get old though

Is it leaking through the mechanism or seal as new rings are cheap?

Some poor Landyzoner will need new pump before long, put it on the parts forum, recover some cost and help the family ;)

To avoid any doubt you would be better asking a seller whether the impeller is plastic or metal at the time of ordering if the impeller material is an issue for you.

For critical parts I avoid 'pattern parts'. Too many issues over the years, my own experience & that of others.
OEM should be the item made by the original manufacturer. They may not be the current supplier to the car manufacturer & the part might not be the latest evolution as there may have been changes to address identified problems.
Genuine parts from the parts dept of a franchised dealer I would expect to be the current evolution of that part.
Confusing isn't it.

Send it back, seller is liable for the postage on a miss described item.

There is no miss description, nowhere on the Rimmers site does it say this item has a metal impeller. And i am sure that somewhere in the small print it will say photographs are for illustrative purposes only.

Send it back - think P1 is a plastic version BUT Id expect better service off my local factor. No excuse - Send it back.

I had metal impeller before Xmas, stc3342 KS - firstfour.co.uk.

Kapi is in Sri Lanka. Postage probably more than the product is worth, especially after he's paid the bribes to make sure it gets where it should. He'd do better ebaying it over there.

Parts are an absolute nightmare. I'm not surprised many garages just fit original, especially with all the ****ty Chinese fakes out there.

p1 = plastic one? Sounds plausible!

A lot of the stuff, even on dealers shelves, are Chinky imitations. Been like that for a very long time. Supposed genuine Land Rover water pumps for M51 have plastic impellers. The price Rimmers charge for them is bloody ridiculous.

You are correct Grrrrr. No point in trying to send it back. Better use it as paper weight or a door stopper and never buy from Rimmer brothers , again.

Looking at their website part numbers ending with 'P' are described as aftermarket which says 'pattern part' to me.
Those with 'P1' ending are described as by an OEM maker.
Land Rover ones are described as 'genuine' & I'd expect them to be in a LR logo'd bag or box.
Be interesting to know what impeller type would be on a genuine LR dealer supplied item. Assuming it wasn't something in a blue box....

I did read on one of the BMW parts sites that early ones on the BMWs were plastic & disastrous & subsequent ones were a composite material. Metal ones also available but not as genuine or OEM parts.
