Hi all, I have a problem with reverse & brake lights not working.
Quick background history.
Had car for about 5yrs & XYZ switch was replaced by ex land rover mechanic due to usual flashing MS lights & going into limp mode. So I am assuming switch should last a bit longer than 4-5yrs (maybe not!)
Anyway, driving along recently in rain with wipers on when noticed rear wiper coming on as per when in reverse. Did wonder if this was the start of a LR glitch.
Few days later noticed no reverse lights & the when checked, no brake lights either. Change blown fuse 25 which blew straight away as soon as ignition switched on.
Rear wiper does not come on now when in reverse but car drives perfectly ok in forward & reverse with no warning lights. Anyone have any ideas please??

Thanks. First post after a few years of gaining some very useful info from this excellent forum.
Have enjoyed 1 defender, 2 Disco 2's & the wife has a Freelander 2 so very much used to LR quirks!

Most vehicles do put rear wipers on if the front ones are on and reverse is engaged,
I haven’t a wiring diagram for the disc 2 so cannot help you further other then check why you have a short that keeps blowing the fuse,

Change blown fuse 25 which blew straight away as soon as ignition switched on.
then there is a short to ground on that circuit, if you are handy with a multimeter and you have RAVE(the Electrical library - connector views are necessary) i'll try to help you find the culprit, for the beginning unplug the brake pedal switch and see if the fuse bows that way or not... if you are not skilled with electrics you need to find a good auto electrician whi can work by the diagram

Ok, thanks, I'll have a look at the brake pedal switch tomorrow. Is it possible there is a fault with the XYZ switch or wiring to it? As seems a coincidence that the rear wiper problem started at the same time.

might be a short on that circuit too, eventually unplug the rear lamps and see then if the fuse blows or not

Ok, first of all, thanks for the very useful info & taking the time to offer advice from sierrafery & mystery, much appreciated.
I began today by removing both reverse/fog lamps from rear bumper. I forgot to mention before that several years ago I replaced the weak reverse bulbs with super bright led's & wondered if one had gone faulty causing s/c fault.
Anyway, having removed lamps I then replaced fuse 25, turned ignition on & all ok. Brake lights worked ok.
Next, removed led bulbs & checked for s/c but both ok. No sign of water ingress or corrosion anywhere in either bulb holders or plug/socked connection.
Put all back together & now absolutely everything, inc rear wipers when in reverse, work ok.
So it's now fixed & working ok & I have no idea what was wrong!!
So what do you think?

when you removed the lamps did you examine the cable for damage before and after the plug for any signs of damage to insulation you may have inadvertently cleared a cable that was shorting to earth
