Restoring leather

Hi all,

The front seat cream leather on my P38 was a little cracked when I had it. I have replopcaed most other trims that were in need to get it looking mint inside and out.

Does anyone have any iodeas for minor leather restoration like this as i live in the country Australia and a decent leather person is miles away. I have seen a few kits on the web in the US, anyone any ideas. It is just a few minor cracks on the seating bit.

Your first step is to get some proper leather cleaner and some leather conditioner, most places that do household sofas etc should have both, or try any trimming supply stores.

Then first scrub the seats with the cleaner and allow to dry fully, then with a soft cloth rub the conditioner into the leather, you'll know when you've applied enough as the leather will absorb as much as it can and then the cream will just start to spread on top of your seat.

If this doesn't work then it's either retrim the seat face or get a colouring kit. don't try normal paints as the paint will simply crack and flake off. It's best if you have access to a spray gun to apply the paint with, all you have to do to scuff the seat with a scochbrite pad and mask up the piping.

Try a web search for a company called Gliptone, based in Todmorden. Wish I had! They are speacilist in car leather and do a specific range to match Range Rover colours.

Be warned there is a guy selling on Ebay who is a bit pricey and its better value to buy direct from them. Not hellish but worth going direct. I have yet to try mine but the Gliptone make is highly recommended in car mags.
