I am replacing the timing chest on my disco 200tdi as the idler stud has stripped the threads in the casing while running and threw the idler. This has made a mess of both the rear section and front timing cover. I have sourced and ordered replacements, and am now in the process of gathering the other parts which will be needed to swap them over.
Does anyone have the parts manual for a discovery 200tdi? I have the defender one (below) and need the discovery equivalents of gasket 5 and 6.

Also if anyone has any pointers on how to carryout the job that would be very much appreciated. I have stripped the timing belt off, and the next stage will be to remove the crank and cam sprocket and remove the injector pump.

I've got the gaskets separate no problem there.
You don't need to remove the injector pump.
That is good news! Does the injector pump remain supported on the rear brackets then? I don't want to remove it if I don't have to.

I don't suppose you have either the part numbers or the parts diagram for the gaskets?

Iirc theres also a gasket between the inj pump and the chest.

That's bad news, it's likely to cost you a few quid :(

It has not been as bad as I was expecting so far (touch wood). I found what looks to be from photos and questions a decent condition second hand timing chest for £100. And the paddocks order came to £110 (mostly OEM) for; the gaskets to change the cover, the parts needed to replace the timing belt, the relevant gaskets to remove the head (one of the cam followers could do with replacing), and a set of push rods. I know that is not cheap but I was expecting a far larger parts bill. I just need everything to arrive before the weekend so I can hopefully get it all back together.

There is.

Your image doesn't load for me  but I think the part number for that gasket is ERR631

they are the same

Thank you for confirming. I did eventually find a parts diagram for the discovery 200tdi.

I've got a defender timing chest if you're after one (not the front cover)
Many thanks for the offer but the discovery one arrived today and seems to be in very good condition, so as soon as paddocks get on and special orders nearly every part I ordered I will be bale to refit it.

I will try and remove the damaged one tomorrow it looks fairly straight forward looking at the parts manual but will keep you all informed of how things go.

Many thanks to all who helped. Managed to remove the timing chest this evening. Taking the crank sprocket off (without the special puller) was the most difficult part. As long as my paddocks order arrives tomorrow with all the gaskets and timing kit in I should be able to get it back together over the weekend.

Apologies for the poor lighting:

Well despite requiring extra time to order the parts not in stock paddocks decided not to include the timing chest to block gasket for the water pump or the camshaft oil seal as they were out of stock and the parts would follow at a later date. So after a quick phone around Saturday morning I had a 100 mile round trip up the M6 in the series 3 to John Craddocks who did have them in stock I finally started early afternoon. Managed to get the timing up and together with my shiny new parts Saturday, and Sunday stripped the head off, checked the valves and replaced a couple of the cam followers which required it. So after a long weekend of engine work I am finally back on the road. Many thanks for everyone's help.
Shiny new parts:
