Thanks to the cold weather I managed to fubar my drivers window regulator (window got stuck but the regulator didnt) and had to have a new one fitted. I found one in a local breakers but because I was at work I had to get my local garage to replace it.

When they fitted it they said that because it was only rubber holding the window in they added a bit of silicone or something to help it grip and asked me not to use it for a few days while it set. As soon as I tried to use the window it came out of the runners so I tried to refit it tonight but there is silicone everywhere and I have fixed it up and unplugged it until the weekend.

Does the regulator need any extra help gripping the glass or should the rubber be strong enough or should I use something else to help?

The rubber in the channel does work if the channel is in good condition
but the only way to get the glass to fit solidly is to take the window out of the door with the channel and rubber.
You then have to fit the rubber in the channel and drive the glass into position with a mallet or lump of wood etc. If it's done correctly the glass will not come out again, it's a bloody tight fit. I refitted mine a few years ago with new channels and they are still in place. If the garage used silicon it sounds a bit like a bodge job.

Yep and fook knows what the garage thought they was doing. Talk about a fooking bodge job. I hope the OP is gonna get his money back.

My thoughts exactly but I didnt have time to sort it myself. No need to worry about getting my money back I didnt pay for the work to be done :D.

The garage are very good with engines and structural work etc but they were doing me a favour putting the window in.

So best option is to remove all signs of silicone etc and just use force to get it seated properly?

try bending the metal so it closes up, stick some glue in it and force it onto the bottom of the glass so it clamps it up tighter
