On Friday had a major non repairable puncture. The tyres on my car have only done 15,000 miles and the garage say that it is OK just to replace the 1 tyre.

Does anyone have any views on whether this is OK to do?

The tyres are Goodyear Wrangler 255/55 18.

I always prefer swapping axle pairs, or all four at once on my Disco, but it's our main car and although it gets used and abused off-roading it still needs to pull the caravan etc at weekends and be reliable doing so.

For a second car, or pure off-roader, I wouldn't be as finicky and would replace a single tyre ...

Dunno what's 'officially' said to be good practice, but sitting thinking about it, I can't really see any great problem with slightly odd-sized tyres. Diff might work a bit, but it does every time the steering wheel moves and the vehicle isn't going straight, so I can't see that being an issue. Only implication I can think might occur is a slightly different rotational speed between wheels messing with the readings from ABS sensors, and possibly ride-height sensors might also notice ... but there must be some tolerance on them ... ;)

Depends.... How oftern do you check the pressure of them?

If it is every 2 days or once a week then I would say do Axles

If like me you drive till you hear it is flat! Then change 1 at a time unless it makes sence to do 2!

How is the spare looking? If its worn then get 2 new ones on the axles and get them to put the ok one back on the spare and bin the spare and the puntured one! (Thats what I did on my Van and worked a treat!)
