Hi I have not really posted for a while due to a busy schedule, I am in desperate need of new footwells and the metal trims around vent flaps (door top hinge area) I have the replacement parts ready, but due to my work schedule don't have time to try and fit them, I've been quoted £450 to have these fitted and painted by a garage I haven't used before so I'm a bit apprehensive and feel it's quite expensive, they initially said it would take four days at £150 a day, can anyone recommend garages in West Yorkshire area, or someone who could do this, I'm willing to pay a fair price and it maybe was a fair quote I received. Has anyone paid for these replaced and can let us know how much they paid it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Steve

That seems a lot of money to me, when you say paint I assume you mean brush paint?
I reckon footwells are a days work as for top bits cant comment without pics.

I thought it was expensive as well, it was to spray paint but I aren't bothered about a perfect finish, rest of landy is rollered! The top bits look like the po has just siliconed new metal over the old which wasn't removed and continued to rot.
See pic attached,

Need it doing ASAP as footwells are in a bad way and it's just gonna spread on the bulkhead, will get another couple of quotes

Cheers

Sorry, Im a fooker for only reading the title, not the writing inside :D

Ive just done mine, and I'm **** at welding :)

You cut the crap away, weld on the new stuff, grind it down and weld again, until you happy.

Although I have spent more time stood staring at mine and a lot more time swearing at it :)

Edit: I didnt read that you don't have the time to do it yourself... Hmm can't you do it bit by bit or is it a daily runner?

Ha I didn't word the title very good either but couldn't edit it, don't really have the time to do it myself now, spent several month staring at it and the panels gathering dust so just gonna bite the bullet and pay someone, or it won't get done and I will have to endure another winter of wet feet and coldness:)

Any mobile welders around your way?
Maybe the local garage knows someone.

Gonna try a few garages today, my brothers a welder but lives in Scarborough and works pretty much every day so don't feel I can ask him to travel and do the job,
I have pm'd nrgserv,waiting for a reply.

Have a look at what I've recently done to my 90. If you'd be happy with something like that, then take a few pictures of the damage mate, so I have an idea how bad they are, and I'll see about popping over one weekend maybe and sticking them on for you.

Just pay me some diesel and a cuppa or two .. ;)

Cheers Paul, seen your thread, brilliant job you did, my drivers one is non existant , I've had to get the extended replacement panels, passanger side isn't too bad probably could be patched but on both the rot is high up towards the dash area so I think that would need to be removed before work commenced, very kind offer, I will post some pics up shortly

Having done footwells and corners myself whilst the bulkhead was off, I'd say £450 was a very fair price for a garage to charge. I've just been quoted £350 by bodyshops to just skim and paint a small scuff out of my daily driver so £450 for that kinda work seems fair if they do a good job. Trouble is - once finished it might look ok on the surface but underneath in the multiple skinned structural sections it might be a duff job.

If you can get Paul to do the work for biscuits and diesel I'd take the offer!

What you are fundamentally forgetting is all defender owners are tight ####ers:D
If they are mechs themselves its even worse!

Cheers, just wasn't sure how much jobs like this cost and wanted to make sure I wasn't having my pants pulled down having not used the garage before, least I know it's a fair price, Paul has offered to do it, but I am going to pay for him doing it as I understand it's a significant job and don't expect it doing for nothing
