My 2001 Disco has succombed to ACE pipe faliure. The pipe from the valve block to the rear acctuator has split at the rubber end part and on closer inspection all the pipes look very corroded and in bad order. I need to be able to use the vehicle for work this week and want to pose this question. I'm probaly going to remove the ACE completely to avoid the costly repair bills but for the moment is it possible to link out the rear suspension componants by linking a short length of pipe out of the one hole at the rear of the valve block and back into the other one? This would still allow the fluid to circulate around the pump and therefore it wouldn't sieze?
Any advice please, and if anyone has removed thier ACE system can you let me know how you got on. TA

If you want to sell all your ACE components i will buythem.

I had my ACE removed a while back.

Mine's a 2002 model - GS with springs (not air suspension). I can honestly say I don't notice the ACE has gone at all - drives the same. However I once drove a 2003 TD5 without ACE but WITH air suspension and the car did lean a bit in corners.,..

So...you need to swap the front ACE-equipped anti-roll bar with a Non-ACE version. The Non-ACE anti-roll bar is part RBL101370 and the links are RBM100223. You also need to take off the ACE pump (driven by the Aux belt on the front of the engine - you install a jockey wheel where the ACE pump is now, and put a new AUX belt on at the same time). Improtant you do the ACE pump because if it seizes then you'll break the AUX belt and it'll be VERY expensive!

Then you have to tell the car's electronics that there is no longer ACE installed (wether or not you can remove the ACE fuse I am not sure).

Cut old pipes off and done!

I had mine done for me, cost £380.

Thanks Martin thats given me a bit more idea of whats involved and the cost. I've spoken to two local LR garages here and niether of them have removed an ACE system so I think I'll end up having a go at it myself in the very near future. I've got the vehicle going for now by blanking off the two pipes that come out of the rear of the valve block. I've just driven nearly 50 miles and not noticed any real difference. The rear part of the system won't be working now as theres no oil going to it but I presume the front is still working as it should. All the warning lights have gone out aswell so I'll just keep an eye on it now until I can get to removing it properly.

If you do attempt this yourself, it would be great if someone wrote-up the procedure - ideally with a few photos...

You would go down in LandyZone history as a top geezer!

I'll try my best to do that then, a step by step guide has got to be useful for anyone else who wants to give it a go, mind you it'll be full of bloodied knuckles and swearing!

Does anyone know if there is an off the shelf jockey wheel to replace the ace pump?A pipe has gone on the actuator . I cant see any difference in handling as I put a Paddock 2" lift kit on removing the airbags which were always going. And will the pump seize if there is no oil in it? It may have sealed bearings so lubrication may not be required.

The pump is lubricating itself with the oil....it will burnout without fluid......u better replace it with an idler pulley(there are some designed especially for ACE removal) .....and sell(or donate)the pump if it's working.

I too have ace pipe failure and have been quoted £1,013.00.
Anyone know of anyone in the north east who would do ace removal or is it feasible for me (completey inexperienced) to do it myself ?)
Tony

It would be hard for you to remove ACE if you're inexperienced. You also need a diagnostic tool to tell the vehicle's brain it no longer has ACE (otherwise the warning light will stay on).

You also need to work on the AUX belt, and replace the front anti-roll-bar.

It's unlikely that you'll have all the tools, if you're "not experienced".

Should be max £600 for removal...more like £400 if you;re lucky.

I had an ace problem with a split pipe about a year ago now and did get it fixed was about 500.

I needed the car working before it could be properly fixed so just put a none ace fan belt on which just ignored the pump so no real need to fit a new anything in place of the pump if yor removing it?

By-passing the pump with a different belt will do as a temporary fix..........as long as your insurance company dont find out should the worst happen.

Hi SVRIDER ,My rear ACE Pipes are done in too and thought this could be a good idea to just inhibit the rear ACE functionality and noticed you did it. Has it been successfull as it's over a year since you did it. I would also like to know what you used to blank off the valve block ports..any advice welcome
