Hey guys, ive been considering getting a remap done on my 02 defender, td5 110, ive looked at what i believe to be all the options, i.e, td5 alive (and the likes), local companies, buying a nanocom and loading a remap onto it, but all of the above are relatively speaking, expensive for someone whos in collage and has no steady income :D so im considering this, buying a nanocom and learning how to do the map myself, the questions i have are this:

1: Is it insanely impossible to do with no real mechanical background?

2: Is there good resources out there to learn how to do it?

3: Has anyone here done it and what were the results/problems?

4: Im not a complete idiot, and i learn fast, and i wouldnt be one to half arse it, id most likely spend ages researching and learning how to do it before i gave it a go, so do ye think its a good i dea or not?

Good luck !!
You will need a reliable hex editor to manually edit the downloaded map.
You will also need to calculate new check sums and insert them into the correct places.
Get them wrong - even by one position - and your ECU wont run the engine as the map will appear corrupted to the ECU.
How you tell which bit of the map does what I've no idea. Also how you find out which values are acceptable is also a big hurdle. Nobody is going to tell you how they do it for obvious reasons.
Its not impossible but I'd argue its not economic unless you intend to go into the remap business.

Also where are you going to buy your Nanocom from. I've been trying to buy one for about two months now but everybody is out of stock with no idea of when they will be getting resupplied. I've even emailed Nanocom asking where I can get one and they say that the units are no longer being made as there is a newer version coming out later this year.

Thanks for that shifty :D rite, there goes that idea then! ill just have to save up for gary so, i wouldnt trust anyone else ive talked to, nobody else seems to do as good a job and knows what there on about.

got run over by a fool in a honda civic 4 years ago, claim money paid for the hospital bills, and leftovers i spent on my baby, small compensation for the 4 broken ribs, two broken legs and a concussion i suppose ;)

Hiya

Your best save up and then let the guys at td5 work thier magic, If you look on thier home page you'll see the results so far in just the remap on my 90!
