Hi guys,
I'm in a bit of an odd situation in that I have a 2001 Disco TD5 which HAD air suspension but the previous owner obviously gave up on it and had the coil spring conversion kit fitted.
But I want the air suspension back (why? Towing, and insurance reasons)
When I had a look, the compressor is still in place, but the 30A fusible link marked SLABS relay (for the air compressor according to RAVE) has blown.
The car has been programmed for coil springs I think, though the suspension lights still illuminate on the instrument cluster in 'self test' mode when you turn the key and pressing the OFF-ROAD button makes the light illuminate on the dash while holding it, but does nothing (no chimes etc or flashing lights as the manual implies should happen if it was working..)
So, I am after a bit of advice really - does the following seem sensible?
I want to know if the compressor is alive or dead - if I just put 12v up its main connections, I am hoping it will whirr if it is alive - is this a sensible test? Or do I need to do anything to its solenoid valves to avoid killing it?
Then, I think I need to get the LR programmed to air suspension by the dealer but will pull the fusible link so I can drive it home while still on springs so it doesnt burn out trying to inflate air springs that aren't there yet (ignoring any chiming....)
Once it's back chez moi, I can remove the springs, put the air springs on and connect up the piping and it should then inflate the airbags.
If I get it done, will post a tutorial with pics if anyone wants to do what I am!
Cheers,
David
