what you got to ask youself is.

where you going to connect them to?

what you going to connect them with?

How you going to connect them?

what SWL do you want? and work back from that.

So much stuff for sale out there, you need to know what you want, how you are going to use it and if you ( and the towee ) know how to use it safely.

I decided on 12 Tonne rope , good quality rated shackles and other smaller rated straps etc.

Pikey beat me to it, plenty fo places to find the kit, shop around. remember P&P tho, cos this suddenly makes it expensive if you buy bits from different suppliers.

just make sure you have a good place to connect it , ( both ends ) and if in doubt , as Zammo should of done, "Just say NO"

here u go

i bought damar strops etc as they seem to be good quality and good for the price

http://www.slingsandstraps.co.uk

if I may say stay away from kenectic strops as they can be very dangerous in the wrong hands , as u can end up with a shackle through your rear window

heres a link on info as well

http://www.offroaders.com/tech/Tow_Straps.htm

also got some short safety ropes that are supposed to stop the shackles from flying through the air if they snap

trying to think of the name and a link , see there's nylon shackles as well but don't know how good they are

hope that helps abit

Thanks for the information, I'll read into it before I make my decision. Definitely like the idea of saving my window.

i have a long lifting strop thing about 5 metres long, and 2 x 2 metre long ones that i can make into a 'Y' off the jate rings at the front for recovering me, or i can make into a 'Y' on whatever vehicle i am recovering if they have suitable attachment points.

Have to be careful when using a 'Y' though as if the arms are to shallow an angle the forces can be MASSIVE and make things fail.

Usually i just use the NATO jaw on the back.

Also have a selection of 3-5t shackles (maybe 4 or so)

all of that linked together means i can stay on firm ground and still pull people. I am debating getting a long towing rope though aswell
