Afternoon all,

After searching for the best recovery set up on here and across other sites iv found opinion varies massively!

My TD5 110 still has its lashing rings, and im looking to put together a decent recovery set. Id rather get good kit now than have to replace it.

Jate rings- On the rear of the TD5 it looks like they pass through the chassis, theres no separate welded point, the chassis is in pretty good condition, but is it designed to take the pressure? Do you just pass shackles through the rings once there fitted or a strop through the rings themselves?

Front recovery- Looking at a steering guard with recovery points with a set of rated shackles. Think this will be my choice - PM609TE | Steel Steering Guard with Integral Towing Eyes - Galvanised - for Defender RHD

Rope/strops- Theres a lot of differing ideas on this. Iv only ever used strops at work, I was set to purchase a strop to link the jate rings and pass through it a longer strop to then tow from. This is a method iv used before but is it the best way to go?

Was hoping someone with more experience than me could let me know if im heading along the right track, or if iv made a few novice mistakes.

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers
Sean

Jates. They do the job but a 2" receiver setup is loads better. Given the jates position you better be sure a rope is connected before you get stuck!

Front. Sounds like a good idea. 2 points allow a bridle setup to spread load too.

Rope. Ropes every time. Much better than strops as they have a bit of give and don't shock load the recovery points. Rated shackles a must etc.

Brilliant, thanks for that, again there's loads of different suggestions but what rope/ropes would you recommend? il have to google the 2" receiver as I don't think iv come across one yet

I'd get a 4m rated nylon rope from extreme4x4. Had mine for a few years now and its been great 9/10 its all I've needed.

After that I'd buy a 2m strop for a bridle or tree saver. After that I'd buy a kinetic.

Extreme4x4 sell the receiver setup which I've found d to be excellent. Safari equip in Bradford actually make it and sell at half the price!
