I have just fitted new wheel bearings ( rear ) to my TD4, it drives well but i have some warning lights on now ? TC,ABS, Hill descent warning light and the handbrake warning light ????? Does any one know what I've done wrong ?????

Thanks you 2, at 0400 hrs this morning i was on my way to Skye leaving from Newark. At about 0600 hrs my wife woke me, the car was making a horrible loud whirring noise and smoke was coming from the rear. On stopping and looking at the rear, underneath i saw diff oil all over the place. I wonder how much this is going to cost me ?!?!

neither post above would cause the issue you have now got, so I suggest its not thanks to either of them. I would also suggest people refrain from helping you in the future.
 
I am in now way shape or form blaming anyone on this forum for what has happened to me today. It's just one of those things. What happened to me today could have been one of three things, so please don't think I'm blaming anyone Lowbank.

I'm assuming its the rear diff?

It shouldn't be to expensive from a breakers - and more reliable from a breakers than an IRD. Fitting shouldn't cost to much either.

This assumes the fault was something 'simple' like a seal dropping all the oil. It it was because of a tyre mismatch and/or to stiff VCU causing wind up - then you'll need a replacement diff and you'll probably be best to leave the props with the garage, continue your journey 2WD and pick them up on the way home. Then consider further options when you get home. Will need a call to your insurance co to say you are holidaying 2WD.

Steady on - I interpreted your comment in exactly the same way as @Lowbank and had to read it a few times to see if you were being sarky. Still didn't know till you responded. More comments like your followup and I think it won't just be Lowbank not bothering with you precious posts/threads!

no not really, thought you being a little off with the people who posted. You were certainly off with me, to which I have not responded apart from saying sorry if it was not meant that way.
 
when you get everything sorted what year is you car as you said you replace the back wheel bearings then you had warning lights later freelanders had different wheel bearings they had a magnetic side which must face outwards this drives the sensors for the abs hope this helps

Thanks for replying mine td4 is an 03, I didn't know that about the bearings. I don't think it mentions anything like that in my Haynes manual, unless I misread it. Thanks again.

Is it possible you have had new tyres fitted to the front, this can cause the vcu to lock up like it should , but does put considerable strain on diff and vcu,
Tyres were fine until this problem occurred. My wife said she only drove 3 miles with the whining noise. I don't know why she didn't stop when the noise was first heard. I was asleep. Thanks.

With reference to the bearings, i asked a chap at the Lincoln Landrover he told me there wasn't a specific way the bearings went in ? So i asked a friend on mine who is a Military Vehicle boffin and a High Voltage electrician, he tested the old bearings with a magnet testing tool. The old bearings had no magnetic properties whatsoever ?
Has anyone on this forum ever tested their bearings ? It would be interesting to see.

Put new oil in the rear diff first. Then check the rear brakes.
When it's all back together, set off slowly and listen for noises. If it sounds like a bag of spanners, stop driving.
If it's quiet run it around a bit, hopefully it'll be alright.
If not someone on here will point you in the right direction.
