Had some play in the rear wheel bearings on my disc brakes rear axle. Pulled the OSR apart and changed the bearings and adjusted them up no problems at all. However, pulled the NSR apart and the nuts were loose. Replaced the bearings using timken bearings but they will not adjust correctly. If I even spin the inner nut up even by hand the hub locks up completely. I’ve tried leaving the inner fairly slack and tightening up the outer nut but I can’t get rid of the excessive play. I’m now about to order another wheel bearing kit. But does anyone have any suggestions as to what’s causing this? I eondered if it’s worth ordering a replacement stub, there’s no obvious wear on it

1. When you say locks up does it get gradually stiffer as you slowly tighten the nut or is it being physically stopped by something?
2. I assume you have the big washer between the outer bearing inner race and the first adjusting nut?
3. Possibility the stub is slightly bent?
4. Have you checked all the rollers in both bearing races are free to rotate?

no missing washers and its a brand new bearing kit, i have spare hub seals to i pulled the bearings and put them through the parts washer, they look perfect. it doesn't get tighter gradually, it just stops with very little pressure.

i'm wondering if the stub is bent myself. i pressed the races in firmly and they are nice and tight in the hub. i've crack tested the stub with NDT paint and it passed. for the sake of £20 i might just order a stub and a wheel bearing kit

I had a dodgy front stub which made it almost impossible to get correct bearing adjustment, wasnt dear 35 quid rings a bell?

Not a sausage. Looked to be in fine fettle so possibly bent?? I might clean it up, chuck it on the lathe and dti it.
