hi can anyone help with this is the 88 inch rear side upper same size as the 109 safari as wanting to use a defender type window as don,t like the ones in now

So you have an 88 and you don’t like the windows.
Do you need help fitting, sourcing, procuring, technical support or viability.
Not sure what an upper window is ?

Not entirely sure what you are asking about. Are you talking about the rear side windows in a 88' side panel (between the tub and the roof)? If so the side panel from an 88' is the same size and a direct swap for the side panel in a 110 station wagon. Which may be the easiest way to get defender windows.

thanks i have a 109 safari one in pic i do not like rear side windows and want to put a defender style window with better locks and none of that Chanel work every year so im looking at getting panel side then i have some windows i could fit only rear panels i can see are for the 88

also putting defender front seats in that grab bar at the rear of the front seats if i take this out would the vehicle be unsafe as ive seen many on google pics but not sure if they use any thing instead

I am fairly sure, but stand to be corrected, that the rear side panels in a 110 and a 109 are exactly the same size. Therefore you could just fit a complete defender 110 station wagon side rather than having to fit a window to a plain side.

Again you are going to need to clarify this, what "grab bar" are you referring to?

The bulkhead behind the seats adds rigidity to the bodywork not to mention a little impact safety. You can get or make a shaped cap for it that drops its level so that seats will recline a little more but it’s not much. The drivers seat will have less movement if you have the fuel filler behind it. If it has already been removed and replaced by a bar then leave it in but check it’s actually doing what it needs to do.

I have seen all sorts of side windows put in a series. Even one out of a horse box. As long as it’s frame is smaller than the panel it in theory should go in.

It’s a thankless task turning a series into a defender. They never look quite right and a little like a private registration plate, only look good to their owner. Everyone else just thinks it’s because you can’t afford a new car. The transformation also reduces the value of a series. As more and more people want originality less money will be offered for bitsa.
I’m lucky in the fact that mine was botched together from bits well before I ended up with it so it matters not to me but the price I paid for it reflected that fact.
