I'm not special I'm limited edition
Right then boys and girls. I have taken my leccy winch off the front of my 110 and want to rear mount it. I have my old winch bumper that I can bolt to the rear cross member. I was wondering if anyone has tried to fit a winch between the fuel tank and the rear towbar braces?

Has anyone got any thoughts on this. I rekon if I were to move the braces down by a couple of inches I would have enough room.

would it not reduce your ground clearance and be a pain in the ass gettin it protected from thewinter salt and water. Make a plate and mount it in a similar fashion to your tow hitch, using two pins instead of one, you can put on take off after your day out.:p

It wouldn't effect ground clearance as it would be higher than the drop hitch. Having it on a plate on the drop hitch isn't an option. I live on a footpath and it's a 5 min walk to my house. That means that I'd need to keep the winch in my landy and there just isn't room.

I'm currently wondering about removing the brace bars from the drop hitch and making steering guard type device to both house the winch AND replace the braces. The cable would then come through a set of rollers mounted to the drop hitch.

This would also help shield it from mud and salt etc. As long as the cable is kept well oiled it should be ok.

The solonoid box would be mounted in the back of my landy with a wander lead remote, wireless remote and dash mounted remote.

Ok, I can see your issues. How about unbolt the tow hitch and cut the outer edge and bottom of rear cross member and plate up cross member between the chassis legs and build a box there for the winch and suspend tow hitch below the box. I read somewhere about the rear cross member on the Td5's not being as strong as in previous models, its ok for towing but if you try winching from it might not be good????

The only part of the rear crossmember with any strength is the centre bit.

I like the douglas motors winch bumper but it's a bit pricey for my liking.

The mot tester wont be happy when he can't check the xmember.:p:p:p

Looks like I might just have to bolt my winch bumper on.

It would be an extended rear cross member, whats inside is feck all t do with tester so long as exterior is sound. What shape is a 90 tank, is it smaller? and replace your existing tank and put winch there?:)
