hi all got a td4 02 i have a slight rubbing humminig sound what sounds it is at rear left checked wheel bearings seem ok could it be the drive shaft justed jacked it up took wheel off and turned drive shaft side to sided seemed ok but when pushing it back and fourth there seems to be quite a bit of movement from the wheel hub end is this right also is there a better way to check drive shaft wear many thanks

its suppose to move in and out but if it was moving up and down that would cause a noise possibly, but it is more likely to be the propshaft bearings, you cant always tell by looking or seeing if theres play in them unless they are totaly knackered

ah ok thanks yea no movement side to side just a small amount in and out so theres no way of checking prop bearings but noise sounds like its coming from rear left ok checked again and there seems to be a smll amount of up and down play on the left hand side drive shaft

it is hard to pin point noises on a fl due to design of the drive train,if you removed the complete prop and vcu and drove about and noise still there then it isnt the prop bearings!!

ok just removed whole prop and noise still there it sounds like rubbing sound but only between 30 and 45mph then it goes
