Anyone got the distances for fitting a rear wiper motor to a safari door? Got a free motor as they get took off the work landys. Mine didn't come with the pre drilled holes. I think there may also be a bracket missing?
Anyone also know if possible to fit central locking to the rear door lock?

Yeah, there is a little bracket. You can see it on here, it allows you to tighten the wiper motor on to the panel without squishing it. I'll take some measurements from mine.

I was planning on just pinning abit of plate steel where the bracket should be and bolting to that, I was scared to drill with no measurements incase I 1 hit the glass and two put the hole in the wrong place and the trim wouldn't line up! Does the whole motor sit proud of the door frame itself? Or sit into the gap next to the skin

The centre point of that hole on mine is 350mm from the hinge edge and it's 45mm down from the window edge. I used a 19mm - 3/4" hole cutter to go through the skin.
When I bought the Hawk CL I read about a rear door actuator, but never found it.

It sits proud of the frame and the door cover has a box that sits over it.

Super thanks for the help Al I'll fit mine today. Did you measure the 45 mm down from the outside window edge or inside on the box section? One sits bit diffirent height
It does go through the top box does it not?
Yeah I only asked about the actuator as I saw something about a diffirent rear door lock mech you can get supposidly ready to fit central locking to. Not sure if be worth laying the loom just for the back door though

I measured the 45mm on the back of mine out on the drive just a few minutes ago, so from the outside window edge. I'm looking through my pictures here, but can't find one showing the frame clearly from inside. The hole does go through the frame, just not sure if it's in the exact centre of the frame. Here's another picture

If you look closely, mine is not a 'box' section. It's an L shaped piece which will be why it needs that extra bracket. If yours is a box, you should be ok. :) I would aim for the centre of the box in that case.

I've just zoomed in on your pic and it looks L shaped too :( You could put a tube sleeve in the gap. You'll need something so the skin doesn't squash in or you won't get a water tight seal and it will leak water in.

Ah I see what you mean; I just assumed box the same as the other parts lower down. I'll have to have a look when get there in a minute. I still need to make the bracket for the second fix on my motor to stop it twisting but all this is doable now I have a measure haha couldn't find measurements anywhere!
I got a never fitted door cheap anyway so I can't complain too much!:D I'll either do tube or some studs either side to stop crumple
Let you know how much of nightmare it is :D everything's easy if you have all right bits but so many diffirent bits got to adapt everything o_O

I hadn't noticed the cross piece for the second fix wasn't there :( Are you going to weld a piece in? The measurements for the hole won't need to be too precise. The closest my wiper blade gets to the door frame, in the arc it creates across the glass, is about 3cm to the handle side of the glass.

I'm thinking either weld a strut in or put a peice of 1 or 2mm plate across and rover to other two and put a bot through that. It's mainly just to stop spinning
Gana drill the big hole now and see how it sits

Used some U steel and made a brace either side packed out with some penny washers as like you said al, no bracket; doubled the second one as the fixing point for the motor too. Easier than I thought it'd be! Watch it won't line up with the trim now :D:rolleyes:
Cheers for help! Defo gana do the central locking mod too! Looks too easy not to, especially when doing front doors be a shame not to aha.
Have you fitted an immobiliser or alarm to your 300 tdi Al? I was thinking of making some dead switches for starter etc or just getting a kit?

That looks impressive. :)
Yeah the central locking was easy to do. I did mine a while after I finished the rebuild, so didn't bother with the back as it was a little more involved. Will probably do it in future though.
Being a 96 (perhaps being a CSW) model mine already had an immobiliser and alarm fitted, so can't help much there.
Do you have light switches on the door A posts?

Mine is only a 1990. Was v8 then upgraded 300 tdi so immobiliser I think nada haha
The courtesy light when open door? Yes since I've put a tdci bulkhead it's got those in and most of the wiring for central locking up to the doors. Not sure if it will have the signal receiver in and just be missing the fob to make work? Never looked much into locking and alarms to be honest seems like it can be dead easy or really hard haha.
I got new handles, and was going to do window motors and central locking all in one go since as said wiring is there. Where the wiring goes is yet to be solved haha
Was hoping to do clocks and warning lights etc this weekend put td5 ones in but they haven't turned up thinking a ebay scammer...:eek:

Forgot about the Tdci bulkhead! All that wiring sounds like a bit of a pain to sort. Great once done though! Good luck with the clocks! :(

The siren is secreted in an inaccessible place inside the vehicle, with it's own separate 12V power supply.
I've also thought about those proximity alarms but be annoying if always going off. I don't want to have a for for locking fob for alarm etc though be bit of a mare! I don't know if the wiring and signal receiver is already in the bulkhead or not. Gana have to ask Gatso or someone who's done similar if it is I could just wire an actuator and get a fob made to the signal that runs. Seems like witchcraft to be honest
