Hello All,
I am hoping some of you can shed some light on this simple job that has took me two days so far!

The pinion is not coming out, once i have taken the propshaft, off i am met with the peg(Pinion) that covers the nut holding the flange on.

I cant get this bloody thing out regardless, I have tried heating it, banging it, making a makeshift puller out of sockets, threaded bar and bolts! I just cant get it out!

Has anyone got any ideas? I know in the Rave Manual it states you must used Land Rovers 'special' tool which costs £115 quid!!

It is just a push fit and it is an awkward little sod. If memory serves, it takes an M6 or M8 bolt. I cobbled together a puller and heated the hell out of it. Slide hammer might help with the heat. Or maybe use a long bit of studding bent into a loop and use a ratchet strap onto somewhere on the chassis to winch it out. Either way, you need a lot of heat to get it moving. Once its out, I would use some bearing fit or similar cause it seemed a bit loose when it went back in.

Ah, im liking the idea of winching it out! A Ratchet strap might be good for
this if i get some threaded rod screwed all the way in and tighten her up?

Heated the little madam for 20minutes yesterday and it just laughed at me!

Will attempt the ratchet strap some time next week, im sick of laying on my back under the car this weekend, bleedin thing!

again my sympathy as i got one to do now i realy dread it, but hey ho its the joys of mechanics i suppose.

just mastic the cap back in its only to stop the crap getting in isnt it, leave it to cure over night and job should be a gud un
