Afternoon all.

The rear core plug on my 300 tdi discovery has decided to spring a leack, i replaced a couple on the side earlier this year so it makes sence they should all be knakered! My question is do i have to remove the head to access or could i do it from below ass soon i will have to replace the cluth so i could kill to birds with one stone, i know its pretty tight back there and imagine its a head of job but just in case!.
Many thanks in advance

Does not look like you need to remove head but if doing clutch will give a bit more room.

Thanks for the replies, I managed to get a small miror behind the engine and discovered it was the core plug in the back of the head rather than the block so head off all to change a peice thats worth under €1!!!!! grrrrrrr.

@kevstar plugh was properly gone sadly!

Just thinking aloud.
When the box is off could you try releasing the hoses etc and tilting the engine forward to give more room?
Or
Take the engine out to change the clutch and coreplug in one.?

Ive done ones thats totally rotten as a temp fix on a 40ton doosan machine still going strong
that was 3 years ago lol. Not the first time ive stuffed a smaller plug inside another one.

Pull the engine is exactly what id do the hardest bolts is the top bellhousing ones if there is
sound deadening fitted, ive removed engine mounts to lower the whole lot to access them.
