The plastic trim finisher above the left corner of the rear bumper has become partially detached. Try as I might I canot find a way to reattach it. Nothing looks broken and I can see a push-in attachment clip on the finisher and the hole in the body where it is supposed to go. There is just no way of applying suffcient pressure to get it to go in and hold. I have tried going in from the inside and have got some very long nose pliers onto the clip, but again it is just not possible to pull hard enough to get it to lock in place.

Is there a technique I am missing? I can find nothing in either Haynes or RAVE.

There are 3 trim clips and sometimes a self tapper too. 2 clips are on the rear face and fit to the bumper finisher first. The 3rd clip locates in the side and should be fitted to the body first. The bumper finisher is installed from the rear, lining up the forward facing clips with the relevant body holes while lining up the side of the finisher to slide over the head of the body side clip. If the rear 3/4 panel is still the correct shape ( many aren't!), all the clips should snap into place with a hard push.
The self tapper screws through a tab off the bottom of the finisher at the side. the tab / screw are almost hidden under the top edge of the bumper ( the tab is often broken off!)

Thanks Paul,
I'll take another look tomorrow and overlay your explanation with what I can see. I think the tab might have broken off and the rearmost clips have certainly come out. No amount of hard pushing will get them back in as the trim comes up against the bodywork and won't go further long before the clips engage. I suspect I will need to buy a new one.

A key issue may be the type of clips you have.
There are some aftermarket 2 piece clips that get used that almost always break when the trim finisher becomes detached. When they break you might be left with small bits still attached to the bodywork & the remainder of the clip on the finisher is then too small to click in place again / be re-used.
Best are the 1 piece clips that have the same external profile when new as the 2 piece - but can be re-used as they usually don't break as easily.

Pawl, that sounds like excellent advice. The tab is still in place for the self-tapper and the side clip is still there (and was the only thing holding it on). But the two forward facing clips are missing, as is one of the plastic female clip counterparts in the body work. The finisher itself seems intact, so simple enough to sort if I can order the right parts. The Parts Manual does not seem to list them unless they are CZK3264L and DYC101570L. Don't suppose you have a source for the parts you mention?

DYC101570L is I think the correct part no, but many suppliers will try to supply you with DYC10031L, which is very similar, but not quite as good a fit.
I've not bought any for a year or so as I bought so many previously, but having a quick look on ebay I can't see any good sources of the 1 piece design, only numerous 2 piece versions.
From numerous trials (I knock the trims off many times a year - lol) the 2 part grey & white versions are for some reason slightly better than the black & white parts.
Byronix & 227sparts on ebay are normally good value if they've got them & often you've got to search by visual appearance as they often don't use the LR part nos because they are an industry clip - NOT just Land Rover.
Via Ebay they used to cost approx. £2.50 for 10 rather than the £2 each you might pay at an LR main dealer !

Thaks Pawl. I discussed it with Paddocks and have bought 5 each of the versions they came up with. £1.48 for the clips and about 40p for the counterpart. I know what you mean about knocking them off, I finally did for this one off brushing off snow. Thanks for your help.
