Disco 1 Rear bumper removal

I recently purchased a 300tdi auto with a goosed engine but it was still mot'd
The bloke had bought it from a garage a couple of months earlier so I took a punt, anyway with work and life I'm finally getting around to getting rid of it but when you open the back door there was a strip of gaffer tape hiding this

So any tips on how to remove the bumper so I can get the welder out and anyone know the part number of these little plastic jobbers please


The boot floor is solid it's just that the top hinge was worn causing a leak and a water trap

IF memory serves me right Marmaduke it's held on bi two 17/19mm head bolts & a couple of 13/14mm head bolts & that's it !

About a third the way along from each end, underneath, are the two bolts holding it on .. they're captive nuts on the bumper, but still a beeatch to get to and get off if they're rusted ... Lay on your back, slide underneath and look up and backwards to the bumper, just inboard of where the bumper lights are. Can't remember the endcaps ....

I can see how to get the end caps off after I got one caught on a fence post and bent it
Hopefully once this is done it can get mot'd then eBay here we come

Yeah, I took my endcaps off and welded the ends closed a long while ago ..

If you cant undo the main bolts you can take the bumper lights out and access another set from the hole. Don't be surprised if on dropping the bumper you find the rear cross member needs a bit of TLC. Bumper corners come off with bumper. Extra pair of hands is useful!!!!

Heh, wait till you start trying to find decent steel to weld to .. Check the body mounts, especially the sides ...

That's F/all on a BIG ship !

Guess I was a bit fortunate when I removed my bumper!

You certainly were, the garage that the bloke had bought it from just put a strip of gaffer tape over the top of it

Classy repair, a lesser quality establishment would have stuffed newspaper in the hole and gobbed filler over it.

I found a folded up disc of sandpaper being used for packing behind the filler in the sill of my old Minor. Structural filler, obviously....

Don't despair. I think mine was worse and not the hardest to repair! Undo the rear mounts and you can lift the body enough to get some working room. I am sure I posted a few pics when I done mine. It was my first repair job! My rear mounts where also shot so I think a used the YRM over boot repairs which done a very good job!
