Rear brakes

Hi guys need some advise please i am overhauling the total rear braking system this week end on my 200tdi 1994. disc;s pads and calipers my question is when i change the calipers i will clamp the flexy pipes but will i need to bleed the fronts as well or just the backs and i know i am being a pain in the arse but what size socket do i need for the hub nut Manny thanks for any info you can give

By clamping the rear flexy pipes you should not have to bleed the fronts, but it's good practice to do all four after all it will only take an extra 10 mins to do the front bleed nipples are easy to get to.
The hub box spanner is 52mm.

thanks mate will bleed the fronts as well then just hope the nipples come undone OK whats the betting thay don;t. dave

Will it be ok to put the transfer box into nutral and the main gear box into nutral so i can free wheel the back to check wether brakes are working ok.

As long as the diff isn't locked you should only need one of the gearboxes in neutral although probably a bit easier to turn if transfer box is as well. Make sure that the front wheels are properly chocked and the vehicle cannot roll while you have rears in the air (sorry if I'm stating the obvious!)

thanks mate just wanted to make sure it did not bugger up the drive system. i have heard that when it go;s for m.o.t they can not put it on a rolling road so that's why i asked cheers Dave

Mot brake testers are a bit different from a rolling road, rolling roads turn the whole axle, a brake tester are in two parts left and right. one side goes forward the other in reverse so ok for 4x4's.
