Hi my TD4 had passenger side rear brake sieze on - what a bind!!! I feared the worst and took drum off ..... this was tricky... but a few stiff clouts freed off drum...I was then able to prize and wriggle drum off.:D

I thought handbrake cable had siezed ..... but no .... where it attches is a
pivot joint...brake dust and moisture had got in and siezed it up. So I applied a tiny amount of WD40 and wriggled arm with mole wrenches.....eventually if freed off. Then I wiped WD40 away and applied a tiny amount of copper slip grease - wriggled again and bingo - nice and smooth. Brakes now work a treat ... cost £2.50 for a tube of copper slip:eek:.

Don't be afraid of this job:eek:. I think good preventative maintenance would be to remove drums every 2 years and empty our dust and clean pivot.

There is a post on Landyzone showing this but I can't find it....so thankyou Landyzone it was incredibly usefull and I hope this easy to find post helps somebody out.

hi just done the same job as the handbrake cable had seized and thus the pivot point had seized as well so check you hand brake cables

Hope you also took the shoes off & derusted/greased the contact pads where the shoes "land" against the backplate or you'll find yourself back in there before too long.
