Can anyone tell me the easiest way to find out/measure if the flexible brake pipe is metric or imperial.
It looks like the change over was '81 which is when mine was built as it is on a Y plate so it should be metric but I dont want to assume and would rather make sure before ordering the part. I have a choice of imperial RTC3386 or metric NRC9458.

Spanner size across flats? The 7/16 and 11mm are a bit close but the larger nuts are a bit more different (9/16 vs 16mm? I can't remember). What is the rest of it? Mine should have been imperial but was mix of metric and imperial, in the end I replaced all the metric so its all one system, makes ordering spares a lot easier. The metric and imperial flares are very different even though the threads are dangerously close.

9/16....14mm

This is the problem that I have, i think mine is a mix. I am sure I had to order imperial fittings when I replaces the brake pistons, but I have definitely used metric fittings on it in the past. I will try and clean it up well enough to measure the flats, but the chassis end I have currently removed (still attached to the axle) needed to be removed with mole grips as was quite corroded.

Does anyone know what the thread size should be for either metric or imperial and I could see if an equivalent nut would fit. I will also see if my dad still has any of his imperial thread gauges as he used to work on old British bikes.

Brake fitting thread details are in the workshop manual page 33 area.
