I have a Defender 90 200TDI 1992 with drum brakes on the rear and wish to convert to discs on the rear .
What are my options ,is there an axle that will fit straight on without any modification ,open to all suggestions as I am sure there is many .

Cheers

Just buy one from a scrap discovery with them already on as it's a straightforward swap just swap the drive flange from a three bolt to a four bolt one
That's what I did, and it gives you time to check / replace bearings, seals etc. The hardest part was removing the disco flange (3 bolt) to 4 bolt. Mine was rusted on, and eventually had to be cut off with an angle grinder. Apparently most are easier than that.

Thanks for the replies guys ,think a easy option is go for a Disco rear axle ,can you tell me what years I would need to source a Disco back axle from ?

Don't limit yourself to an old Disco 1 axle as even the newest 300TDi one (the type you want) will be 18-years old so could be a worn out heap of rusty steel !

I bought a Disco one for my 1986 90 back in 2004 and after a tidy up (new stub-axles, bearings, discs, calipers, paint-job, fitting of the 24-spline diff & halfshafts out of my original axle) I bolted it on and had 11 years excellent service.
Fast forward to last year and it was starting to show its age (the pan was corroding through and it needed another paint-job) so rather than messing about I picked up a 2-year old TDCi rear axle and bolted that straight on (the only difference was that I needed different bushes for the lower shock mountings).

As above. Tdci will be more expensive but disco 300 tdi will have disc not sure about disco 200tdi however I think they came with disc but they are 10 spline. Newer will be 24 spline. I put one on mine a couple of weeks back. Pretty straight forward
