or is that effectively what the watts linkage does?

From what I understand of the suspension, the Watts linkage prevents the axle moving sideways under the chassis and keeps it in line with the centre line of the vehicle.
The ARB essentially connects one end of the axle to the other end through some chassis mountings and is arranged so that if one end goes upwards due to suspension action, the other end is forced to go upwards too thereby reducing the swaying or roll effect especially when cornering.
So, it's fair to say that the ARB and the Watts linkage have quite different jobs to do.
