Evening,

My V8 Classic runs hot under load. Head gaskets are fine, fans are working, water pump new-ish so am thinking maybe the 23 year old radiator is to blame. Have been offered a recently recored one from a '94 V8 for £170. It has brass tanks and was in use for a month before the car came off the road due to major gearbox failure.

Seems like a good deal as new aftermarket radiators are £300 or so and I suspect a re-cored original is a better option?

Any thoughts welcomed. Seems a simple enough job for the inexperienced with a Halfords socket set......

Cheers

I just paid about £150 delivered for a new Nissens RAD from Island 4 x 4.

If you view my recent post on this subject (it's a V8 mate sub-forum) you will see there can be unexpected problems with the one-size-fits-all theory. Just be aware that if you get a radiator from another model-year of Classic, some minor adjustments may be required.

Thanks for that. I've looked a little more and there are cheaper after market options for under £200. I'm Still unsure whether a re-core of mine or a new non OEM is the best bet.

Does anyone know whether there is a difference between a radiator for a manual and auto? I've seen some listed as different rad's but can't think why they would be different.

the model number most seen is ESR3687

Any more thoughts appreciated

Thanks

The ref # you quote is the auto version, manual is listed as ESR74. My indie fitted a Britpart rad that cost £162+vat four years ago & I've had no problems, but I still wish I'd had the original re-cored.
