HI,

Which service do you recommend?

AA RAC Greenflag etc?

I have a disco, automatic and if they need to be taken home you need to be on the back of a recovery truck don't you? It's not good to be towed is it?

So which service is the most ready to send out a lorry?

I joined the CSMA and they have a good service. Used them loads of times (at least once a year so far /firstname terms with the local bloke now) - VERY cheap too. Yes you can't tow an auto for very long cause the gearbox is not getting lubricated without the engine running. You can tow for short distances and low speed if you need to.

We are with RAC, had our landies on low loaders a few times, seems a good service, however, I think its 6 and half a dozen.

Which is a good point as in most cases the truck that arrives comes from a garage that has contracts to all the recovery companies. My guy does all of these AA, RAC, Green Flag and a load of others. So you pays varying amounts of money and get the same service any way.

i've only ever used rac or aa and they both come with tales of woe and tales of excellent service. personally i think its more down to which agent you breakdown near rather than the actual company you have a contract with.
i've had them **** about with clutch adjustment when the engine wouldn't start resulting in burnt out clutch.
the AA chap tried to start an engine i told him not to because i had heard crunching noises coming from inside, after 15 mins he agreed it wouldn't start. result completly ****ed engine instead of just a new valve. and perhaps head.
but both companies have supllied people that went way out of their way to assist me get to my destination.
so it six of one and two three's of the other really.

i used to work for theAA and even though they **** on me from a great height i am still a member . after leaving theAA i went to work for a private garage that contracts to all the motoring clubs and oh boy did it open my eyes. in my opinion theAA is still the best service. go for the roadside relay option, i think its option200 unless they have changed it again. but they are deffinately the best. for a start they are the only roadside assistance company with their own recovery trucks. all the others belong to garages and are painted up in the colour of the organisation they are working for. hope this helps ;)
