Hello,

Simple question for you tonight. Would quite a lot of oil in my air intake (caused by turbo failure and resulting pool of oil in the intercooler) cause lumpy running a little like a misfire? :)

Thanks!

I would'nt have thought so, it's a 200tdi isn't it? if anything the engine would run on the oil in your intake, if there was enough of it.

Thanks. I'm trying to get my head around it. I've had to swap my turbo because it had been passing quite a considerable amount of oil into my intercooler and the air intake, so much in fact that it was creating little puddles of oil in the manifold. I haven't cleaned the intercooler out yet, so that is still going to be flooded with oil at the bottom, which will find it's way into the intake manifold. It is still smoking quite considerably on start up too (due to oil in the air intake). It runs smooth when warm though with perhaps a slightly faster idle than usual (burning hot oil). I'll clean it all up and see how it goes.

good luck with it mate, seems like you're on to it.

Cheers :) I think I've just kind of answered my own question! Cold oil with cold engine burns lumpy with lots of smoke (a little like starting on veg oil on a cold day) and then my engine ticks over slightly higher when warm as it is burning the hot oil.

better off removing the intercooler and cleaning it with brake cleaner as the oil can block the holes could be why its running lumpy

I'm going to take it out tomorrow morning and give it a good clean with some petrol or some diesel (don't have anything else around here!) and then use my sisters hair drier to burn it off! Last time I cleaned it out, I used petrol and a hair dryer to burn the fumes off and I was met with plumes of smoke :D

maybe think of changin yr turbo too, i had a motor with the bearing on turbo gone and it just fed the engine on oil an once it goze you cant turn it off unless u stall it.
by then engine was totaled....

I swapped it yesterday ;)

But yeah, it would have ended up like this [nomedia="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5zx3qKX_Pno&sns=em"]YouTube - Runaway Diesel Defender 200 TDI[/nomedia]

19J's are renowned for running on oily air, technically it should cause some odd running but in all honesty i doubt it would be that noticeable especially as you rectified it sharpish ;)

Sorry to hijack,

anyone give me a couple of lines on why a standard 1.4 non turbo 4pot 04 megane engine would have oil in the airfilter. myns running lumpy on idle, took it apart, bout 'normal' mug of tea's worth of oil in plastic cousing.

Cheers.

Good luck with you issue.

Dud du daaar! i'm always here, just everyones so usefull i hardly need to post a q!?

Cheers, and bugger. I wouldnt mind if my landy was bugged, dont mind working on it, but a crummy 1.4 bloated arse, might just leave it. doesnt have a turbo so must be rings then. cheers again
