Just about to buy a 56 plate Freelander - Adventurer - but it's REALLY basic! It doesn't have glass sunroofs but solid metal/plastic push up panels instead. Quick Q - can I buy glass panels easily (and cheaply) to replace the solid ones?

Also, how much will a decent set of wheels cost me (aka the Sport type or even the Freestyle if they are cheaper) and finally - are reversing sensors easy and relatively low cost to add.....?

All this makes me sound like a real cheap skate but this one is quite keenly priced and only done 29k miles.....so may be worth upping the spec a tad - what do you all think?

It's only to be used as a 2nd car - having just parted company with my Ex and our fab D3 I didn't need anything quite so big but Bertie (my Choc Lab) and I need some 4WD transport for weekends etc.

Thanks guys!!

I am guessing its a 3 door model you are buying and possibly (given the age) a TD4?

I would think it should be an easy enough swap to put in the glass sunroofs - if you can source any through a breakers.

For wheels, again try a breakers or ebay.

Reverse sensor kits are plentiful and often quite reliable - if you need them! otherwise, on spec it depends on what you want and need, loads available.

You can pick up Freestyle wheels quite cheaply on eBay - I've seen them go for £20 to £50 a set when the condition has been a bit battered, the seller is desperate or the pick up location a bit remote. Well worth keeping your eyes open and browsing well.

The targa panels can be found on eBay or breakers. You can get sunblinds to go across them, which are pretty essential.

If you a downgrading and used to Disco size, check that you are happy with the size of the boot.

Cheers

If it's a petrol then think twice before buying. If it's a Td4 auto then check the road tax as they went for those built after March 06.

Thanks guys.....it's a TD4 Manual - checked the tax on DVLA and its of the 245 variety - as opposed to the 400+ I was paying for the Disco......!

Haven't quite signed on the dotted line yet.....think it's because it's so basic - that said - I can always add to the basics if and when I decide to! More important to get from A to B on and off road than worry about sunroofs, tinted windows, decent wheels, sat nav, electric wing mirrors, sports suspension..... doh! :-(
