Hi, i have a 2003 Freebie TD4.

im curious to know what the difference between a TDi and a TD4. Engine wise, or type of injection. What difference does it make?

Also, was the 2003 Freebie TD4 a BMW engine or a Rover engine?

Is TD4 Common Rail? Is TDi Common Rail?

As far as i can make out, the TD4 is a Turbo Diesel Common Rail Direct Injection.

Basically, can someone just give me some rational info about various types of diesel engines and advantages e.t.c

Sorry if thats a pain, but ive grown increasingly curious about it all...firstly because despite my extensive car knowledge i know nothing about this, and because im on the hunt for a good freebie tuning box.

Thanks chaps.

A TD4 TD6 have PD type injectors in
(along with some other makes and models)

PD means In effect the injectors each have their own little cam-operated fuel pump built in (TD4 and TD6 are both electronicly fired by a bosch DDE4 engine ECU).

common rail is where the fuel is under high pressure in a central accumulator RAIL ( hence the name), then delivering it to the individual electronically-controlled injection

Unlike the TDI which uses a injector pump to create its derv presure and are mechanicly fired.

A Landrover TDI is not a PD injected engine it is a direct injection engine and its fuel is pumped from a injector pump driven from the crank shaft

Thats about all i can type in one go lol ( pluss there is a lot more to it than that and it would take me all week to type it al in )

But its a start 4 u

btw i can chip your TD4 no probs :) unless you wish to stick to a add on box ?

Thanks a lot!

I think im actually looking for a Tuning Box rather than a chip, for various reasons ;)

Am i right in thinking that the TD4 is also a direct injection? (it doesnt inject into a pre-chamber then release to main cylinder)

That is correct

re tuning boxes there a wide rang availble BUT try and buy one that will give warranty on the unit its self .

Like the Tunit unit 3 yrs warrnaty and if you sell your car they/we will buy it back
