Hello

Q plated vehicles cannot transfer there registration numbers.

I had a Q plate escort Mk3 a long time ago and was told by the DVLA that the plate have been issued due to a number of reasons.

1. Previously been subject to a total loss claim and reshelled.

or

2. Been used abroad prior to being imported into the uk and registered.

or

3. The vehicles year of manufacture is unknown.

Hope this helps.

Q stands for "query" as to the identity of the vehicle, hence no change for a private reg and why insurance costs more. If you insure a q reg motor, it could be listed as a base model but actually have top model bits, so insurers charge for the just in case scenario.

There is a way round it, sort of. I went down this route last year with my q reg shogun, but it blew up before i completed it.
If you transfer the vehicle to ireland permanently you can get an irish plate. Then if it comes back to UK 6 months later permanently it will then be issued a new number. Bit of a ball ache, but you did ask.
